Ryder Cup 2014 Announcement






The Ryder Cup at The Gleneagles Hotel, Perthshire, Scotland, will take place from Friday September 26 to Sunday September 28 2014 with Diageo, the world’s leading premium drinks business and producer of Johnnie Walker Scotch whisky, being named as an Official Partner.

The date for the 40th staging of the biennial contest between Europe and the United States was announced at The Gleneagles Hotel yesterday in the presence of Scotland’s First Minister, The Rt Hon Alex Salmond MSP, European Ryder Cup Director Richard Hills, Peter Lederer, Chairman of Gleneagles Hotel, and Patrick Elsmie, Managing Director of The Gleneagles Hotel.

Scottish Renewables Conference 2011









The annual Scottish Renewables conference took place over two days in Glasgow last week and attracted names such as Prof Susan Deacon, VP of National Geographic Terry Garcia and saw Professor Stephen Salter MBE, a world-leading pioneer of wave power technologies, presented the Saltire Prize Medal by First Minister Alex Salmond.

First Minister visits Stirling's Royal Palace




First Minister Alex Salmond has revealed details of a weekend of celebrations to mark the opening of Stirling Castle’s Renaissance royal palace after a £12 million refurbishment.
He made the announcement during a visit to the palace where he saw the first of the original 16th-century Stirling Heads being prepared for display in a specially-created gallery on the upper floor.
The royal palace opens to the public on June 4th and 5th 2011.

Burns in Space




The mission has landed - at the Scottish Parliament! NASA astronaut Nicholas Patrick touched down at the office of the First Minister Alex Salmond yesterday to present him with a miniature book of Burns poetry which was on board the latest space mission to the International Space Station.

The project was the idea of the Scottish Space School which is a programme delivered by the University of Strathclyde. The book, which also contains a fragment of Jean Armour's wedding dress will be put on display at the new Burns museum which opens later this year.

Caledonia Whisky Launch


Scottish singer-songwriting icon Douglie MacLean was at the Edradour Distillery in Perthsire recently for the launch of his Caledonia Whisky with First Minister Alex Salmond. The name of the new whisky is taken from the title of one of his most famous songs which also featured in the advert for Homecoming Scotland 2009.
